We held our first 'D-Day Anniversary Weekend' here in June 2009 and expect this to be one of our most popular Weekends over the coming years: indeed the 2010 Event is already fully booked. However, during the course of our research into the history of this dramatic period of Normandy's chequered history, we have come across many stories of heroism, hardship, determination and devotion by individual soldiers and airmen that took part in the series of momentous events that took place in Normandy from June to September 1944.
We feel that although the very many museums, bridges, landing beaches, etc. from the conflict of '44 are all very interesting, we wanted to dedicate this Weekend to some of those 'ordinary' men by recounting some of their extraordinary stories.
You'd aim to get here on Thursday sometime mid/late morning. We'll take you to a rather nice restaurant overlooking a lake for lunch and from there on to the U.S. cemetary just outside nearby St.James. This is the second, lesser known American War Cemetary in Normandy (the main one being at 'Omaha' beach on the Northern Coast) but is no less impressive and sobering for it. There are a number of interesting stories attached to the cemetary and we'd like to start your Weekend by telling you about just some of them. All day Friday and Saturday we'll be riding around some of the amazing Biking Roads in the Normandy 'Bocage'; some up in the Cotentin Peninsula, others further east towards Falaise.
Both areas saw much action in the months following the D-Day landings on June 6th.1944 and we'll take you to just some of the places that saw individuals perform astonishing deeds in exceptional circumstances. We think you'll find it an interesting, memorable and, indeed, moving few days.
The pace of the Runs Out for this Weekend will be at a relaxed pace: it'll be suitable for virtually all types of bike.
N.B. If you'd like to extend your stay here for a day or more beyond the dates outlined, we may be able to oblige: please contact us to discuss your ideal requirements.
We reserve the right to cancel a booking if we have received fewer than six reservations up to four weeks before any particular reserved date. Although we almost never do...
