Follow this road for around 5 miles until you come to the slip road for the E46 ring road which will be signposted 'Rennes' - be careful, this turning comes up very soon after the sign. Keep on this ring road until you get to the A84 turn off sign posted Rennes. You'll then stay on the A84 motorway for an hour or so; you'll need to get off at junction 32, about ten miles south of Avranches. You'll arrive at a roundabout at the top of the slip road: take the second turning off this roundabout (signposted Villiers-le-Pré) and ride about four kilometres down the D230, a small country lane which passes through various open fields. You'll eventually come to a junction: turn sharp left and within a hundred metres or so you'll come into La Daviais, a hamlet of just eight houses. Finally...

From Saint Malo (Journey time about ¾ hour):
Coming out of the port at Saint Malo, you'll need to find your way through the city to the main N137 to Rennes. Rather than listing every twist and turn, it's sufficient to suggest that you follow the signposts through the city to Rennes: fortunately it's well signposted. Once you've found the main N137 heading south to Rennes, you'll need to keep an eye out (after about six miles) for the N176 which'll be signposted to Mont St.Michel. Take this exit and join this (mostly dual carriageway) road heading east. It'll also be signposted Fougières/Alengon/Caen/Dol-de-Bretagne. Stay on this road for around 20 miles and take the exit for Pontorson. Follow this road for a mile or so: you'll eventually come to a set of traffic lights on the edge of Pontorson. Turn left and ride through the town centre staying on this road. As you come to the other side of Pontorson, you'll see a builders merchants called Point P. About 50 yards after this, turn right on to the D30 - a superb road of wide sweeping bends - signposted Saint James. After about 5 miles, turn right at La Croix Avranchin on to the D40 and after another couple of miles left on to the D163 which is signposted and leads directly into La Daviais. Finally...

From Cherbourg (Journey time about 2 hours):
There are a couple of routes from Cherbourg down the Cotentin Penisular to our area. The quickest is probably to follow signs from the port to Saint-Lô. This will take you on the E46 motorway, turning off just past Carentan on to the N174. This will take you past Saint-Lô (don't follow signs actually into the city); the by-pass will take you round the city - look for signs to Rennes at this point. This road will then take you on to the main A84 motorway at Junction 40. From here, stay on the A84 for 45 minutes or so; you exit at junction 32, about ten miles south of Avranches. You'll arrive at a roundabout at the top of the slip road: take the second turning off this roundabout (signposted Villiers-le-Pré) and ride about four kilometres down the D230, a small country lane which passes through various open fields. This will take you south of the city and over the magnificent Normandie suspension bridge on the A29. This is a toll bridge, but bikes are exempt - look for the small slip lane on the right hand side of the booths. You'll eventually reach the main A13 motorway: keep following the signs to Caen. This is a toll road, but the charges for bikes aren't expensive: about 6 euros for the distance you'll be travelling, if I recall correctly. This will take you on to Caen where you'll hit the ring road. Take Care! This ring road can get a bit hectic especially around the morning and evening rush hours. I'd suggest you take the southern loop of the ring road and look out for signs to Rennes. Once you're round the Western edge of Caen, you'll get to the A84 exit at junction 9. Take this exit. You'll then stay on the motorway for an hour or so; you'll need to get off at junction 32, about ten miles south of Avranches. However after around twenty minutes or so, you'll come across signs to Caen on either the N29 or E44; take one of these. Either way, you'll eventually end up heading west on the E44. This motorway will wend it's way past the southern reaches of Le Havre and ultimately you'll reach the A13 motorway: keep following the signs to Caen. Just north of Abbeville take the turn off on to the E402/A28 to Rouen - don't head to Amiens beyond this point. However, after 40 miles or so, you'll need to take the exit towards Le Havre on the E44; don't continue on the E402 or you'll end up in Rouen, which, although a very attractive city is a bit of a hassle to negotiate. The E44 will lead you past Le Havre and on to the A13 motorway: follow signs to Caen.
